The Let’s Help Prepare for School Together charity campaign, which enabled every resident of Latvia to support disadvantaged Ukrainian refugee and Latvian families by helping their children prepare for the new school year, came to an end at the end of the summer. Within four weeks, donations from the public helped provide school supplies for 213 children. Children from Valmiera, South Kurzeme, Jelgava, Balvi, Madona, Riga, and Daugavpils received support.

According to the observations of the Ziedot.lv, this support means a lot to children. One first-grader, eagerly opening her new school bag, said it was the most beautiful thing with which to begin her school journey. Another mother said her child's eyes lit up when he saw his new sports shoes. For many pupils, seemingly simple things like a filled pencil case or a set of markers become a real adventure, while for parents, this means less worry in their daily lives. “These small but important things bring children joy and a sense of security, helping them to start the new school year with greater confidence,” says Ilze Ošāne, communications manager of the Ziedot.lv charity.

“As a father, I also understand how important this event – the start of the school year – is for children; therefore, I am delighted that for the sixth year in a row, we have the opportunity to provide meaningful support to those who need it most, with the involvement of our donors and partners. On behalf of AKROPOLE shopping centres, I would like to say a sincere thank you to every donor who helped the pupils start the new school year with fuller backpacks and smiles on their faces,” says Kaspars Beitiņš, CEO of SIA Akropole Latvija.

The Let’s Help Prepare for School Together charity campaign was organised for the sixth year by AKROPOLE Shopping Centres in collaboration with the Ziedot.lv charity and Norstat research agency. The initiative was carried out with the aim of helping students from low-income Latvian and Ukrainian refugee families to better prepare for the new school year.
