2022-09-19

This Saturday, 24 September, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the first “Badminton Day” will be held in the event area of the shopping and entertainment centre “AKROPOLE Rīga” (257 Maskavas Street) as part of the European Week of Sport. Visitors are invited to participate in a variety of activities, such as badminton mini-tournaments, the special challenge or the longest play, as well as contests, quizzes and the chance to win valuable prizes.

As part of “Badminton Day”, everyone will have the chance to put their skills to the test. Warm-up demonstrations for children, young people, and parents, accompanied by various experienced coaches and players; strength, coordination, and endurance exercises; badminton basics training; mini tournament; veteran badminton, as well as para badminton are all part of the event’s programme.

As a special guest, Latvian doubles badminton champion, Toms Preinbergs, will introduce interested parties to the psychology aspects of the game of badminton.

“Badminton Day” will take place in the “AKROPOLE Rīga” event area between entrances A and F. A special activity, the longest play challenge, will be held as part of it, and anyone interested is welcome to participate.

“We are pleased to host the Latvian Badminton Federation in our facilities and to hold “Badminton Day”, introducing the many benefits of this sport to a wider audience. Badminton as a sport provides special excitement and allows you to fully exercise, so I invite everyone interested to join this free event and take care of your well-being while learning a lot about the sport itself,” says Valdis Portnajs, Manager of the shopping and entertainment centre “AKROPOLE Rīga”.

“A sport that requires muscular strength, endurance, coordination, tactics and strategy all at once? That is badminton! The fastest Olympic racket sport benefits not only the human body, but also the mind. This sport is one of the best ways to meet new people, make new friends and spend your free time productively,” says Uldis Krastiņš, Board member of the Latvian Badminton Federation.

The entire event schedule is available here.

The event is part of the #BeActive European Week of Sport (23 to 30 September). The slogan of this year’s European Week of Sports is #Liftup and uplift others! The goal of the European Week of Sport is to increase physical activity in Latvian society and raise awareness about the benefits of mobility for health and work ability.
